International Twisted Day | Funny Holidays

Enter the madness called "April Fool's Day" as a playful joke or an elaborate prank?

Oops...

Have you ever heard of this holiday celebrated on the last day of January?

Of course, the invented International "Upside Down" Day doesn't mean you have to speak backward or walk in reverse (although taking the literal meaning of this holiday can turn into incredible fun). Instead, it symbolically represents a reflection of freedom and resistance to established activities and everyday routines, which, in one way or another, exist to some extent in every human being on the planet.

Although the holiday may sound somewhat frivolous, the origin of this peculiar practice is much older than the newly established invented holiday. In the Roman Empire, there was Saturnalia, a beloved folk festival dedicated to the god Saturn, during which customary social rules and norms ceased to apply for several days, and everyday practices were completely reversed.

For example, during those days, masters courted their servants, while the servants could freely insult them without fear of punishment. Slaves were allowed to speak, and moreover, they would exchange clothes with their masters. Gambling, usually strictly prohibited, was present everywhere. This festival, for understandable reasons, was very exciting and popular throughout the Empire, lasting for several days, after which things would return to normal, and the social order would be restored.

Today, it's hard to imagine such a global role reversal in society and the level of anarchy it could provoke. There's little chance that millionaires would agree to swap accommodations with the homeless or that vegans would devour a steak. Therefore, this "holiday" is highly symbolic, yet very inspiring from a philosophical and sociological standpoint, in terms of contemplating what would happen if roles were truly reversed.

If you appreciate the concept and idea of such a holiday, you can "celebrate" it in various ways—wearing your clothes inside out, going to work in pajamas, or sleeping in your work uniform, twisting words in conversations with friends, or even having dinner in the early morning hours. However, we advise you to moderate the extent to which you disrupt your daily routine since it's highly likely that your superiors and those around you are unaware of this day, and they might misunderstand you, to say the least.
