Days of Hungarian Cuisine in Skorenovac | Tourist Calendar of Serbia

Days of Hungarian Cuisine in Skorenovac are a gastronomic event that has been taking place in this small village in southern Banat since 2009, held every October.

The village of Skorenovac is located near Kovin and has always been predominantly inhabited by Hungarians. Moreover, it is often jokingly considered the southernmost Hungarian town or settlement where the majority of the population is Hungarian.

Hungarian cuisine is authentic in many ways, so over a decade ago, the local community of this village initiated a two-day event with the idea of presenting the best Hungarian specialties - sweet, savory, and even combined ones - to all interested visitors once a year.

During the two days in October, traditional Hungarian dishes are prepared at dozens of stands in the village center. The most famous ones are cooked in cauldrons - game goulash (venison and wild boar), sheep stew, and fish soup. Spicy, sweet, and inevitably flavored with paprika, these authentic cooked dishes are a delight for every gourmet.

That's why Skorenovac often attracts more visitors in October than the number of its residents. The preparation of the event involves the population of other Hungarian villages in Banat (Debeljača, Jermenovci, Šušara, Vojlovica, etc.), and all generations are engaged, from children to the oldest residents.

While the hosts are responsible for preparing the cauldrons and meat in various forms (Skorenovac sausage is also widely known), Hungarian housewives prepare other dishes - stews, pastries, plum pies, apple strudels, cream puffs, and other cakes.

The Days of Hungarian Cuisine in Skorenovac represent an ideal opportunity for the gathering of compatriots from all over Vojvodina. Thus, this cheerful event also contributes to the preservation of customs and culture of a minority nation in Serbia. Food enthusiasts and curious visitors from other parts of the country and the region are frequent guests in Skorenovac during autumn, which makes the hosts even prouder and more motivated to present their tradition in the best possible light.

This year's 14th edition of the Days of Hungarian Cuisine in Skorenovac is planned for the weekend of October 8th and 9th. More details about participation and the program can be found in local media...
