Nishville | Tourist Calendar of Serbia

Nishville is a prestigious international jazz festival that has been held at Niš Fortress every August since 1995.

This multi-day event is highly regarded in the music world and well beyond the borders of Serbia. In addition to nurturing traditional jazz tones, Nišville is known for successfully fusing this originally American musical genre with ethno music from various parts of the world, especially the Balkans.

As such, it has a very authentic and loyal audience and represents the most visited jazz festival in the region and Southeast Europe as a whole.

The festival takes place on multiple stages within the Niš Fortress, featuring a large number of domestic and foreign jazz artists performing every year, including many internationally recognized names.

In addition to musical performances and concerts, the Nišville program is very diverse. Every year, they organize free workshops for young jazz music enthusiasts, where lectures are given by eminent jazz musicians from Serbia and the region. Additionally, the festival showcases promotional performances by young jazz orchestras and bands, while the so-called Movie Stage offers daily screenings of jazz-themed films for visitors to enjoy.

For several years now, one of the biggest attractions of the festival has been the Nišville Jazz Museum, the first of its kind in Serbia and only the second in Europe. It houses numerous exhibits and personal items belonging to many performers who have appeared throughout all these years. A special place in the museum is dedicated to Šaban Bajramović, the crowned king of Roma music and one of the musicians most responsible for the worldwide recognition of this splendid festival.
