Ramadan Race in Novi Pazar | Tourist Calendar of Serbia

Ramadan Race is a traditional sports event that has been held for over two decades, preceding the largest Muslim holiday of Ramadan, on the streets of Novi Pazar, and in recent years, at the newly built Athletics Stadium.

Novi Pazar is known as the city of athletic champions, making it a logical move by the city authorities and the local athletic club, who are also the main organizers of the Ramadan Race.

Since 2000, the race has been held every year before Ramadan, the month of strict fasting for Muslim believers. As the Islamic calendar year is ten days shorter than the solar year, the beginning of Ramadan shifts each year, and so does the Ramadan Race. Thus, over a longer period of time, this traditional race is expected to be held in literally every part of the year, making it one of the truly unique events in Serbia.

Originally organized as a street race, since 2017, it has been held at the new Athletics Stadium in Novi Pazar, one of the largest and most beautiful stadiums in the country.

The Ramadan Race attracts participants from all over Serbia, including athletes and recreational runners, and there are plans to include competitors from the region in the future, giving the event an international character.

The Ramadan Race features competitions in the men's and women's senior categories, with races spanning 3000, 2000, 1500, and 800 meters, as well as competitions for younger age groups.

Previous winners of the Ramadan Race include Novi Pazar's Olympic athletes and national record holders, Amela Terzić and Elzan Bibić, who also holds the record for the most victories in recent years.

For all sports and recreational running enthusiasts in this part of Serbia, the Ramadan Race, along with the Belgrade Marathon, is one of the main events of the year. Combined with the rich tourist offerings of the Novi Pazar region, there are plenty of reasons to visit this city.
