The National Museum in Čačak is located in the city center and is dedicated to preserving the history, culture, and tradition of the Čačak region and its surroundings. It is one of the most important cultural institutions in Čačak, founded in 1952 after an initiative was launched between the two World Wars to establish this cultural institution.

The permanent museum exhibition opened one year after the museum's establishment and is housed in the Jovan Obrenović Konak. It is divided into several sections, comprising a total of around 20,000 items, with special emphasis on the prehistoric and medieval periods, uprisings and wars from 1804 to 1941, and the monasteries and churches of the Čačak region.

The National Museum in Čačak is a complex type of museum as it showcases the cultural heritage of different municipalities in this part of Serbia. It is a regional or local museum that preserves the traces of the past in the Ivanjica and Dragačevo regions. The museum collection consists of five departments, and it also includes a library, conservation laboratory, photo laboratory, and guide service.

The archaeological department showcases prehistoric items as well as artifacts from the ancient and medieval periods. Prominent items in the paleontological section include the skull of a giant deer, horns of a steppe bison, teeth of a cave bear and mammoth. The historical department contains around 5,000 items. The archival material in the history department dates back to the 19th and 20th centuries, with personal items of figures such as Vojvoda Stepa Stepanović, Knez Miloš Obrenović, Prince Đorđe Karađorđević, and more, attracting the most attention.

The ethnological collection contains over 4,000 preserved items, including crafts and household objects, utensils, urban and folk costumes. Ecclesiastical art is particularly highlighted within the art history department.

Among the exhibited items, special mention goes to the Order of the Takovo Region, the ceremonial uniform of Vojvoda Petar Bojović, the portrait of Jovan Obrenović, weapons from the First and Second World Wars, and the honorary saber of General Kosta Protić, bestowed upon him by Prince Milan Obrenović as a reward for his contribution to the Serbian-Turkish wars.

The konak (mansion) where the National Museum is currently located was built in 1935 according to the wishes of Jovan, the middle brother of Knez Miloš Obrenović. Today, it is the oldest building in Čačak and acquired its present appearance after restoration in 1974. Since 1979, this building has been designated as a cultural monument of great importance.

The National Museum in Čačak was granted the status of an institution of national importance in 2013 and is now recognized as an important element of the tourist offer in the Čačak region.

The Čačak National Museum is open from Tuesday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm and on weekends from 9 am to 1 pm. The individual ticket price is 100 dinars, while group tickets have a 50% discount. The National Museum in Čačak is closed on Mondays.
