Museum of the Serbian Oil Industry | Museums of Serbia

Museum of Serbian Oil Industry showcases the establishment of the most significant Serbian oil company and demonstrates how challenging the oil business can be.

It is one of the few museums of its kind in Europe and represents the first industrial museum in Serbia. It is located in the Business Center of NIS company in Novi Sad, paying tribute to all those who have been involved in the creation and development of this enterprise over the years.

The permanent exhibition of the museum presents the history of the Serbian Oil Industry, as well as its operations, including the entire process - from production and refining to the distribution of oil to end consumers. Among the exhibited items, the founding acts from 1945 of the former company "Naftagas" stand out. Old photographs, company plans, and other archival documents are also displayed.

The most significant museum exhibit is a section of an oil pipeline that was preserved after the bombing of the refinery facility in 1999. Visitors are also drawn to two old fuel dispensers, measuring instruments, and oil drilling tools.

The Museum of Serbian Oil Industry presents the challenges faced and the successes achieved by the "Pančevo" Oil Refinery, as well as the development of one of the most important economic sectors in our country.

Through interactive displays and interesting curator stories, visitors have the opportunity to learn about the oil refining process in an engaging way and discover how the first primary facility was established. Special attention is given to the chronological development of the company, from its early days to the modern corporation.

Visitors to the NIS museum can explore the process of oil refining, the journey through the Pančevo refinery, the production of various derivatives and branded fuels, as well as the fuel marking process.

It all began in 1949, and no one could have anticipated the direction in which the Yugoslav oil industry would develop. Today, the Serbian Oil Industry has a rich history, and the museum exhibition recalls the beginnings of oil exploration in this region and preserves the memory of the first drilling sites. Visitors can also learn about when and where oil first flowed in our country, how it is obtained, and what oil really is.

The Museum of Serbian Oil Industry is open on Thursdays from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM for those interested in the energy development of Yugoslavia after World War II. Admission is free.
